Apron Review

By David Casey

Now that Thanksgiving is behind us and we are marching towards Christmas, I’m curious of something; those of you that helped with our Apron meal, what did you think of it?

What kinds of things should we look at doing differently next year. I’m anxious to hear what you who participated would change or modify for our next effort.

Apron

By David Casey

ApronYou know, often times when you endeavor to do something that you’ve never done before, you really have no idea of what to expect and last night was no exception.

Even though I didn’t really know how things would go at our Apron meal last night, I still had high expectations because we knew that God had led us to this place and this was what He wanted us to do. So as the evening went on, sure enough, things didn’t go like I thought they were going to go, in fact, they went better. As I sat down at the end of the day and looked at what had gone on, God’s fingerprints were everywhere. He had been there…

I also have to say that I have never been more proud to be apart of this church as I was last night. All those who served were such a positive example of what it means to be follower of Christ. Thanks for doing what you did. Thanks for being part of such an amazing church family!  –  Psalms 115 1:1

ThanksLiving

By David Casey

It doesn’t really seem like enough, does it? It seems that there should be more words to express to God how thankful we are to Him. I should be able to find them and then say them to Him but often times they escape me and what comes out is a simple “thanks”.

In reality, it’s not enough. In fact, God wants us to not only say how thankful we are but to live a life of thanksgiving. It reminds me of the verse in James 2 that tells us that our life of thanksgiving is lived out.  It says that our ‘thanksgiving” alone is not enough but rather it must be accompanied by deeds that demonstrate to God how we feel about Him.  I hope this season of thanksgiving turns into “thanksliving” for you and your family.   Let’s do that together!

By the way, what are you thankful for?

New Blood!

By David Casey

Doug PiattI gotta say that I am just thrilled to have Doug Piatt on board with us here as our Community Life Minister.  Having someone with his skill-set and incredible heart for people working alongside us will be an immediate blessing. His role of helping with the LifeGroups and the follow-up of our two big events this season (The Apron & The Living Christmas Tree) will be invaluable!

Even though he is just part-time, I know that he is already giving full-time effort to the Kingdom work here at Bedford Acres.

If you get a minute, shoot him an email at dpiatt@bedfordacres.com. I know that he’ll appreciate it.

We’re all in this together

By David Casey

I HeartJust a few days ago I happened to notice, by accident in fact, that a movie was opening called “I Heart Revolution”  (Click the image to link to their site).  I saw that it was made by Hillsong United and it immediately caught my eye because Hillsong is a church!   But it’s not just a church, its also a movement of God’s people that began in Australia.   If you know anything about them, you know what i’m talking about.

Then, someone linked me to this blog post that is all about the I-Heart Revolution from Hillsong.   I want you to check it out today. (lovingtheleast.blogspot.com).
Don’t forget to watch the trailer for the Hillsong movie/documentary at the bottom of the post.

Passport… to a party!

By David Casey

I never knew how big of a deal it was getting my first passport… Sure I understood how, especially since it was shortly after 9/11, the scrutiny you underwent was necessary, but I didn’t understand what could take so long. I waited nearly 4 months to get mine back. Maybe it’s because my photo on it looks like it was taken straight outta the FBI’s Most Wanted, but regardless I got it and now, I am cleared to travel anywhere in the world because of that simple little thing. My Passport is a doorway to the world…

Do you have your passport? If so, how many stamps do you have? (I have 13) What doors have been opened to you because you have one? Gone anywhere noteworthy? Tell me, I really want to know!

Over the next couple weeks I hope you are challenged to look at your life through the context of a passport and see how you’ve invested and where you’ve ventured. Take a look at the passport of your life… its all there, the places you’ve gone and the rights of passages you’ve attained… What does it say??

See you Sunday… (Don’t forget to bring your passport, you may need it once you leave!)

Apron…2

By David Casey

I hope you are excited for the upcoming Apron event on Nov 22. I believe that this is exactly the kind of the thing that the Church should be focused on.

Let me lay out for you the areas in which we will need help

1) Recruitment – This team will coordinate the invitation of our guests.
2)Food – This team will organize the preparation and solicitation of all the food for a traditional Thanksgiving meal.

3) Serve – This group will help serve the meal as well as assist in the set-up of the dining room.
4) Program – We hope to share the gospel message through a creative program of music and message.
5) Follow-up - This will be the largest effort because it seeks to further build bridges by carrying on the effort of the Apron into the Holiday season.

I ask that you will begin to pray about where God would have you to serve as we take off our bibs and put on the apron to impact many for Christ.

The Apron

By DC

For those of you who haven’t heard, we are planning a new event this Thanksgiving and we have dubbed it the “Apron”.   The premise is simple, for the 10 Thanksgiving seasons that I have been involved in this church, we have always had a spectacular meal together on the Sunday prior to the Holiday.  There is always an amazing amount of food and fellowship.  This year, however, our focus is changing from inward to outward.  This year, we are going to take off our “bib” and put on our “apron”, it’s going to be about serving others instead of serving ourselves.

Mark it down now…  Sunday evening, November 22nd, 6pm.

This is an opportunity to show others how much value is on their life.  This is an opportunity to model Christ…

Who will put on their apron?  (John 13)
