It’s been only three and a half months since the country of Haiti was devastated by an earthquake. It was something that broke the heart of the world and many reached out to help. But now, the news cameras have moved on and the journalists have found other stories to cover but the crisis is ever-present for those there.
Below is a video from CBS news that covers the crisis from the perspective of the mission that we support, Northwest Haiti Christian Mission. It’s medical efforts are ongoing. For them, this is just the beginning.
You know, being in the position that I’m in, I often find myself with others who are hurting because of any number of things. Usually, I can muster words of encouragement and hope that often come straight from God’s word.
But this past week, I found myself on the receiving end of those words. I saw, first-hand, the extension of God through His people as so many of you offered your condolences on my Grandma’s passing. Even though many of you knew her personally and were grieving inside, your concern for us was so obvious. I felt what it was like to be on the receiving end of all of that love.
Thanks for what you did. For being at the hospital when she died, for bringing food, for sending voicemails and messages, (even though many of them went unreturned because of the chaos of the week) for attending a funeral in a different state, for the countless hugs and condolences and for celebrating her life at a memorable memorial service. Thanks for being there when we were on the other side.
