At the Movies

By David Casey

I am really excited about the next four weeks here as we begin our second annual series entitled “At the Movies”.

If you’re like me, you love movies. I love action, adventure, comedy and everything in between. I love getting lost in the story and characters. (I especially love the popcorn and all the chocolate-covered peanuts)

Mainly what I love is how hollywood tells a story about any number of things, and somehow, within the story line, God shows up. You know what I’m talking about? You’re watching a movie and then all of a sudden you see a picture of compassion or a dramatic display of forgiveness. You’re comfortably munching on some popcorn and then, out of nowhere, Jesus shows up. Maybe not in person, or in name, but his Truth definitely shines through.

Some of my favorite movies that “preach” are: Schindler’s List, Taken, The Power of One, The Bucket List, August Rush, and many more.

What are your favorite movies that speak to you?

I love the Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade movie. The part where Harrison Ford has to make a leap of faith in order to save his father. His “leap” required 100% commitment and was in his mind dangerous.

One of my favorite movies is “Freedom Writers.” It is based on a true story where a teacher is filled will 100% love and compassion for her students which gives them hope and a will to succeed.

One of my top ten movies…The Shawshank Redemption.
It is the best Stephen Kind adaptation, but it spoke to how no matter where you are, you can stay the same and be a beacon for others.
” Get busy living, or get busy dying.” one of the best movie quotes.

My favorite movie of all time is A Christmas Carol. I love the old version the best. It is a classic story of a changed heart and second chances, once your eyes are opened to the truth. Sound familiar?:):):)
Loved the sermon yesterday on Bella!

Watch “Martian Child.” Anne reminded me of this movie on Sunday …we watched when it came out. It really tells a great story… good sermon stuff! Have a wonderful day!

John Q. is an amazing movie. I didn’t have children when I watched it, but I remember being amazed at how much the guy loved his son. Now that I’m a parent, I can completely related to how much he loved him! He was willing to die for his son by letting doctors literally take his own heart out and put it in his son to save him. Amazing act of love!
